indilean launched November 10th, 2009 to fill a gap between popup ridden junk-show style lyric sites and the more official corporate ones; both lacking indie music and personality. The original design took an “everyone join in” wiki approach to lyric sharing but it quickly became apparent that lyrics, being subject to copyright protection, weren’t going to lend themselves to a creative commons style approach.

Now, instead of posting randomly and without permission, select artists are contacted directly for interest and approval. Many artists willingly provide their official lyric sets and in so doing, provide fans with the highest quality content available anywhere. While most of our current artists have indeed been invitees, the site welcomes any musician who wants to share his or her lyrics or song notes to join up and use the contribute page.
