To me this song is all about faith, closing your eyes to see. Forgetting what your senses tell you and relying on something else… It expresses the confusion and frustration of dealing with faith and religion in our world and that’s where it starts to get interesting.
If you pass away into the winged fortress, that probably stands for heaven. Dying and going to heaven, but the mirror shatters (the delusion that it’s real) and we switch back to using our eyes to evaluate it all (abandoning faith). To me typing in a code is a way to cheat at something like a video game. So if something in life isn’t right or doesn’t make sense, just cheat with religion and faith instead of doing something about it and rest assured that you’ll go to heaven and they will back you up (for what that matters, drawing attention to the petty nature of it all).
If we know each other (God and humans) why should it be so hard? Why should it be so hard to make bad things stop? The answer to all of this praying, codes and faith seems to be “nothing you ever planned on ever turns out the way you planned” so at the end of it all there is another cheat to get out of it all when your prayers don’t work, well nothing ever turns out anyway, just keep having faith… Religion is still disappointing them.
It’s a shame that people would pretend (use religion to justify their righteousness) instead of making amends, apologizing, using their eyes and senses. We were so secure. Were.
