I love this song, it's simple and kind of sad but the music is great and it's so fun to play on the guitar. Anthony is so passionate towards the end (at least live) I can't wait to hear the album version... April 13th I'll have my copy!

I think this song is about compromising and staying in the environment you were born into or fit into, or being a big fish in a little pond vs. getting out there and creating yourself.

Towards the end it seems like maybe two creative people fell in love and then one of them left to follow his passion vs. staying in the relationship and the confined environment; preferring to risk the relationship for his own creative and personal freedom. I've felt this before, the love you find is based on your own happiness and freedom and if you compromise those things to stay in a relationship then part of you whithers and the relationship suffers, it's a catch 22 really. Stay with the person and lose your self or leave and keep yourself alive inside but break up or go long distance.

According to Wikipedia, tabula rasa is Latin for "blank slate" and refers to the epistemological thesis that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that their knowledge comes from experience and perception.

Generally proponents of the tabula rasa thesis favour the "nurture" side of the nature versus nurture debate, when it comes to aspects of one's personality, social and emotional behaviour and intelligence.

One of my favorite Forget Cassettes songs, the music and lyrics are great. I love the deep feelings and meaning here, the line "Unlike you, I give too much and take much more" is perfect, I have felt that sort of resentment and pain, giving into or putting into a relationship reciprocated. Unconditional love can only exist if a living person is there to give it... and they require love themselves, it is therefore conditional and feels so vulnerable. How can something beautiful and pure be turned into a weapon by someone you love?

Let my love spill out, a color too ugly for you, arms outstretched needing love, eyes closed in fear and anticipation. This song makes me love Beth. I guess I can only reflect on how it makes me feel, I relate to it.

Beautiful song, I translated the last lines "On a ete tacher" and I think it's French for "It has been stained" which would make sense, it matches the the lines "Now we're stained". I'm reading a book called "The Last American Man" right now and this song reminds me of some of the relationships in that book, a guy who's driven and neglects the girl, the relationships become stained... just like the bright red of a maraschino cherry.

This song was released in 2006, now we are hearing all about people being "under water" with their mortgages (more owed than the house is worth) and we're dealing with the catch of incompetent governance. Interesting time to be alive, how will we keep warm when we're left alone to deal with the consequences of bad politics and past generations of faulty leadership? They were all pretty faces, were they not?

I feel like if we had a race of night elves (which live forever) or were setup to live longer ourselves we would be more considerate of our future, having more of a vested interest. Silly selfish citizens.

This is a beautiful song, I love the passion Beth puts into the lines at the end. I looked them up and it means "Love me or I die". To me it's all about guys wanting to have more than one woman, cheating and the rest. Maybe it's her struggle as she says "I won't be a number 2 woman" but then maybe he lets her go or she pushes away and now her heart is broken and she needs love. Doctor, and society was always like "you'll find the one" but now that she's grown up it's more complicated and situations like this are killing her inside.

Beth... thank you for making songs about situations like hitting deer with your car. I love your music and this is a great example of the thoughtful topics you cover. Deer are beautiful aren't they? I sort of sense an analogy with the beautiful and hunted thing being about girls too? Maybe??

Great song! I'm glad they put this out a bit early because I'm totally excited for the new album. I wonder what the painting for the album art is all about? Seems like many Circa songs focus on religion and the man in the picture almost looks like Anthony Green. He's got that golden halo like an angel but it's actually a monster about to eat his head off... I wonder what's going on with his right arm too, looks bloody like when religious people whip and lash themselves to empathize with Christ. Pretty crazy painting by Esao Andrews.
