I think this song is just what it says, the contrast of things. The double life that people and objects (personified objects) take on. The cigarette that becomes debris falling from a cliff. The science and bedtime tales that are at odds with each other. Science telling us something isn’t possible and fairly tales delivering a world of fantasy.
