hey now, overcome your concern about, the weather
and whether or not I’m still alive
check the vital signs
so soft spoken and shy
never gets high anymore
did you poison my food, forgive me I’m a paranoid fool
I’ve been lying wide awake paralyzed
by the buzzing of the television
these modern things we know (getting you off)
these modern things we know (getting you off)
haunting us, these different meanings and spectral beings
where fighting sleep with broken rust and weaponry
sing songs softly and low like you want me to hear
stolen what you can’t afford
what’s that muffled full beating for
I’ve been lying wide awake paralyzed
by the buzzing of the television
these modern things we know (getting you off)
these modern things we know (getting you off, off, off, off)
something I’d never said
speak so softly and low
(something I can’t understand)
(something I can’t understand)
(something I never said)
stolen what you cant afford
(something I never said)
speak so softly and
(speak so softly)
(something I can’t understand)
speak so softly
stolen what you can’t afford
what’s that lying
(something I never said)
speak so softly and know
backwards: speak so softly
(softly)
backwards: speak so softly
backwards: speak so softly (so softly)
backwards: speak so softly

House of Leaves (hidden song) Song Meaning & Comments:

Another interesting Circa song about society, drugs and expectations. I like how they mixed in the backwards singing at the end, and the fact that this is a secret hidden song. When I transcribed it and played it backwards I found “speak so softly” and it made the whole song blend in my mind, it actually sounds pretty good backwards, like the song is beginning again in an endless loop with the same lyrics. I love the lines about changing to someone who never gets high anymore, how conformed life has become… contrasting it with the triviality of weather and whether you’re alive.
